Medical Clinic Facilities
The new Head and Neck Surgical Associates’ medical facility is a 5400 square foot renovation with eight exam rooms, two treatment suites and auditory testing areas. Opened in April, 2012, the space promotes efficient operations with a high-end design that integrates into the surrounding neighborhood and caters to the practice’s clientele.
Challenges
- Mid-project, the doctors’ moving-in date had to be bumped-up
- Part of an upscale neighborhood in Kansas City, the space needed to reflect the area with a professional, contemporary feel that mirrored the neighborhood’s sophistication
- Special areas were required to cater to child patients
- The existing building houses a dental practice that was not part of the renovation
Strategies
- Being both designer and contractor allowed RDB to amend the projected schedule, as well as ongoing design updates, on the fly
- RDB tasked its interior designer with finding the right mix of stylish and luxury materials
- RDB proposed a unique and colorful design crafted to wow and captivate particularly young patients
- RDB made provisions to ensure construction would not disrupt the building’s other tenant: critical services (such as water and electricity) stayed on and special routes enabled dental patients to avoid the hard hat zone
Results
- RDB helped the practice overcome a major, unanticipated obstacle that could have stalled business by working to get the doctors open for business much earlier than was originally requested at the project’s start
- RDB integrated high-end finishes such as stone wall at the reception, upgraded light fixtures, wall sconces and other indirect wall fixtures while our interior designer leveraged volume relationships to procure these high-end finishes at significant discounts
- To capture children’s attention, the lobby/reception areas display bold colors mixed with striking millwork and exotic veneers
- The building’s dental office tenant remained open and able to conduct business during the renovation, without inconvenience or interruption
